Nature has always been where I feel most at peace, most inspired, and closest to God—but for much of my life, I didn’t quite know why. I grew up on in a small town in Colorado, surrounded by rolling plains, the Rocky Mountains, and the steady rhythm of life shaped by horses, cattle, and rodeo. The land was vast, the skies endless, but something always felt just out of reach. I longed for something more—something lush, flowing, and full of life. It wasn’t until I moved to the Florida Panhandle that I finally understood what had been missing: plants and water. The sound of the waves, the richness of the greenery, the way nature effortlessly weaves itself into daily life—it all felt like coming home. Unlike the stillness of the plains, the tropical beauty of the coast felt alive in a way that spoke to my soul. Fate had a hand in bringing me here. While competing in college rodeo, I met my husband, who was attending the U.S. Air Force Academy and riding for their rodeo team. Our love story started in the arena, but life took us across the country, eventually landing us in the panhandle of Florida. When our time in the Air Force came to a close, we knew this would be the place we called home. It was here that I discovered my passion for biophilic design—the belief that bringing nature into the spaces where we live and work isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about connection. Connection to the earth, to beauty, to the rhythm of life itself. Plants remind us to breathe, to slow down, to feel present in a space. Water reminds us of flow, movement, and renewal. Together, they create environments that bring people together, lift spirits, and make a place feel truly alive. At Botan PlantScapes, we bring that vision to life.
